The morning of Sunday, September 11th the sun was shining… it was going to be a great day for this year’s Coho Festival. The sun was welcomed as it warmed up 434 Coho Runners and just over 100 Coho Swimmers who got started very early and the sign the Coho Festival is well under way. By 11:00am the rest of the festival started buzzing with fabulous music and the amazing displays on the grounds of Ambleside. Children started jumping in the Kids Park and Coho Walkers arrived from the trails along the Capilano River.
Before long, the aroma of salmon BBQ filled the air. The afternoon included the blessing of the Salmon ceremony, the WV Police took the trophy home for their win at Tug-of-War and two beautiful carvings from the Squamish Nation found new homes. The day was crowned with the live band Chilliwack and the Save On Foods Garden was bursting with families, and folks dancing to their famous tunes.
Sunday, September 11th was one of the best Festivals, if not THE best Festival the Coho Society has staged. The estimated crowd was over 9,000.
The festival organizers would like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who came out to support the cause and stayed to enjoy the day with us. This will allow us to support the stewardship groups who work on the protection of the salmon and the surrounding environment as well as educating our future generations.
The committee would like to send a thank you to all the festival participants, and offer their sincere appreciation to all the hard working volunteers. It is from your commitment to the festival that has made this year’s festival an extraordinary success!
We hope to see you again next year.
